Noah Smith: Student Athlete and Future Teacher

Meet Noah Smith, a first-year student who joined the School of Education in the fall of 2024.
Smith is a member of the men鈥檚 cross-country team and is pursuing initial teacher certification to become a high school history teacher. He also has aspirations to become a running coach.

When asked why he chose teaching and coaching, Smith shared, 鈥淚 want to be a teacher
who inspires students and instills a love of learning. Coaching cross-country is another
way I can make a positive impact while pursuing that goal.鈥 He believes that both
teaching and coaching can change students' lives for the better.
A dedicated runner throughout high school, Smith now competes on 黑料网鈥檚 Men鈥檚 Cross-Country team, racing across the Midwest. According to him, the team trains every day except Sundays, fostering strong bonds among teammates.
As for why he chose Webster鈥檚 teacher preparation program, Smith called it 鈥渁n absolute no-brainer.鈥 The University allows him to balance his passion for running with his dream of becoming a teacher. He also praised the education courses, saying, 鈥淭hey鈥檙e preparing me very well for my future goals. I鈥檝e already learned so much about teaching and about myself.鈥
When reflecting on key aspects of the program, such as mentorship, internships and professional networking, Smith shared these insights:
Mentorship
鈥淭he mentorship here is amazing. My academic advisor has been incredibly supportive, helping me navigate my options and take full advantage of what Webster has to offer.鈥
Internship
鈥淚 haven鈥檛 started an internship yet, but from what I鈥檝e seen, this program provides incredible opportunities.鈥
Professional Networking
鈥淭here are so many amazing professors in the education department who genuinely want to see you succeed. They also have extensive connections, opening up endless possibilities!鈥
